The first step to playing hockey is learning to skate! This 10 week program, offered by the NH Selects is a beginner's ice skating program for players who have not yet mastered their skating skills. It is designed to prepare skaters who wish to pursue hockey.

Saturdays - Rochester Ice Arena

• All skaters are required to wear a helmet (HECC certified hockey or bike helmet)
• Warm clothing: mittens, water-repellant pants and jacket or snowsuit
• Skaters must have their own ice skates. Hockey or Figure.
• No Hockey Gear is necessary for this program. Gear will be part of the Learn to Play Hockey program once the skater has successfully passed their Learn to Skate program.

Levels

• Beginner (Very little to no skating ability)
• 25 min group lesson
• Group 1 TBD After Christmas

• Intermediate (Must complete beginner course or have adequate skating ability)
• 50 min group lesson

Our Learn to Play Hockey program at Rochester Ice Arena, run by NH Selects, is designed for first-time hockey players.

These sessions are the perfect place to start young hockey players. Players will be separated into groups based on their age, size, previous hockey training (if any), and present abilities.

We’ll focus on:

• Stops and starts
• Crossovers
• Backwards skating
• Stickhandling
• Shooting

Our instructors create an enjoyable learning environment that makes it easy and fun to introduce young skaters to the game of hockey. Through applied demonstrations and positive reinforcement, our programs will help your child improve their abilities and build character—all while having a great time!

The Mite Development Program (MDP) with NH Selects at Tilton School is an introductory hockey league for novice players. It is NOT a learn-to-play program (please see our Learn to Play program for that).

PROGRAM DETAILS

Power Edge Pro: Power Edge Pro utilizes Reactive Countering Training™ (R.C.T.) to engage multiple motor skills simultaneously and develop a player’s small area game performance. All patterns are completed while maintaining puck control and are designed to provide 5x as many repetitions as standard drill based practices, leading to faster development of elite skills.

The program runs from September to March. MDP players skate two (2) days a week:

Two days a week is the perfect amount of ice time to support the growth and development of individual players at this age level. The cost of this program is $995 for the Fall/Winter season.
